Upholstered Side Chair
4pm - 9PM
Kim Chaplin
Learn to make and upholster miniature furniture with this adorable 1/12th scale side chair. You will learn the techniques for working with fabric, how to get sharp corners and match up patterns, as well as how to use the right kind of fabric and padding. The chair is 3 1/8” high, 2 3/8” wide and 2” deep. It has a wood base and 3D printed legs that you will stain/paint. Completion of the upholstery is likely while painting/staining may not be completed.
Teacher Supplies: Fabric if you choose to not bring your own.
Student Brings:
If you want to use your own fabric, lightweight fabric at least 9” x 21”. I will also have a selection of fabrics to choose from.
6” or 12” Ruler, pen, pencil & marker that will show on your fabric
Cutting Mat & Exacto knife with extra blades
Large Scissors for cutting posterboard & felt
Scissors with sharp, pointed tips for trimming fabric (I like the Fiskars Micro-tip)
Fast Grab Tacky glue (or Elmer’s glue for thin or delicate fabrics)
Toothpicks or glue applicators
8-10 Small spring clamps – 2 types that have at least ¼” opening and ½” opening (heat sinks/smooth alligator clips, hair curl clips, plastic spring clamps)
Paint or stain for wooden Chair Base and plastic Chair Legs
Quotes from previous class participants: “this class met my expectations and then some!” “The technique most valuable to me was how to get sharp/tight corners with fabric.” (mentioned by 8 of 10 participants)
